Activities
Windsurfing and Kite surfing
Most activities on the island of Lefkada revolve around the sea. The mistral winds that blow in the west shores of the island during the summer create ideal conditions for extreme wind and water sports such as windsurfing, kite surfing, paragliding, waterskiing and wakeboarding. Vasiliki bay actually rates 3rd best European beach for windsurf, and it’s considered a windsurfer’s paradise, alongside the beach of Agios Ioannis. Kite surfer aficionados love the Mylos beach, and even if you haven’t mustered the courage to try these extreme sports yourself, going to the beach just to view and admire the rare spectacle of hundreds of kite surfers flying above the waves is unique and impressive simply on its own.
Water sports
Most other beaches in Lefkada are fairly organized, offering a wide variety of facilities and entertaining watersports of all kinds. The most equipped beach, offering numerous options in watersports as well as sailing and diving excursions is the cosmopolitan beach of Nydri.
Sailing cruises
Sailing is also an activity you should not miss. From short cruises to the neighboring beaches to hopping on to any of the other Heptanisian islands, there are plenty of options for a sailing cruise in Lefkada. Most cruises start from Lefkada’s brand new yacht marina.
Sightseeing
Certainly, there are other activities to enjoy in Lefkada outside of the water. The Town of Lefkada offers countless scenic walkways, through the medieval fortifications of Agia Mavra, alongside the coastline or in the picturesque, Venetian style cobblestoned alleys. In addition, the Archaeological Museum of Lefkada encapsulates all the ancient history of the island by showcasing the most significant findings of the island in its permanent exhibition. If you are in the vicinity of Nydri, don’t forget to visit the delightful waterfalls, approx. 4 km before the village, for a refreshing walk in nature.
Churches
Most of the churches around the island are built in a Baroque style, a direct influence of the Venetian occupancy of the island. Some of the churches worth a visit are: Agios Spyridon, Agios Nikolaos, both situated in the town’s central square, Agioi Anargyroi and Agios Dimitrios.
Eating out
The town also offers a wide variety of bars, restaurants, cafés and taverns to cater to all tastes with great respect to local products and the culinary traditions of the entire Heptanisian region.
